Mark X. Murray, 52, of Stockholm, Sweden, died Jan. 16 of gall bladder cancer while living in Stockholm. 

The son of Anita C. Murray Murray, Clarks Summit, and the late William J. Murray, he was a graduate of Abington Heights High School. In his youth, he was well-known statewide for his swimming talent, receiving multiple awards and setting longstanding local and regional records. He attended Indiana University to swim for the legendary "Doc" Councilman, coach of many Olympic swimmers in the 1970s. Ultimately, he retired from swimming and graduated from West Virginia University. He also attended the Red Cross Peoples University, Mariefred, Sweden, and the Soderton University in Stockholm. Mark was also a citizen of Ireland and the European Union and moved to Sweden in 1998. He was an avid and highly talented musician. 

Also surviving are a brother, Craig Murrray and wife, Corinne, Beavercreek, Ohio; two sisters, Morna Murray, Arlington, Va.; and Bonnie Hankin, Newbury, Vt.; three nieces; a nephew; and many loving friends. 

A memorial Mass will be April 19 at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, to be celebrated by Monsignor John H. Louis, pastor. Interment, Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
